HOW SURFISH CAME TO BE
The idea for Surfish came to me where I love to be most: by the water.
I swim in the Rhine as often as I can. And every time afterwards, the same problem: getting changed without a changing room, with a towel that keeps slipping, dry clothes ending up on the wet ground, the wet swimsuit soaking everything.
At 17, in May 2023, I built my first prototype. Out of microfibre towels, with my mother's help. Then I set the idea aside for a while. Until I was at the beach and saw others struggling with the exact same problem. That is when it hit me: this frustrates a lot of people, every single time.
At 19, in the middle of my final exams, I went for it. I designed prototypes, tested them in person with tall and short people, and gathered which colours people wanted. In July I had the finished prototypes, in August the whole collection, and the first ponchos went out.
Today I build Surfish on my own, alongside my studies. Every message reaches me directly, and I stand behind every poncho personally.
